We are all on the hunt for a good cichetti bar, which is kind of like tapas snacks with ombre (wine taken at the bar). We went to a little place off Campo San Maria Famosa that had been recommended numerous times, and had a massive cheese platter (turned out they didn't actually have cichetti like we were after). We were a bit worried when we were sat near the kitchen and I saw them pulling out massive frozen pre-packaged lasagne but we figured you couldn't go too wrong with cheese. It took them about 1/2 an hour to actually come and serve us and then almost as long to get the platter, but it was quite amazing - there were four pieces of about 10 different cheeses, along with drizzled honey and big baskets of bread. The wine was quite good and apparently that's what the place is known for. Still, there was no cichetti like fried octopus and squid and baby prawns etc, so the hunt continues.
PROSECCO
When in Rome, well Venice... I have been trying lots of different prosecco and they have mainly been good so far - nothing amazing yet. I am still getting used to the fact that in Venice (well Europe) you can drink in the streets. One of our first nights here we went to some bars near Rialto Markets and you can get prosecco in plastic cups then sit along the grand canal and drink it. Fi was playing around with her camera and took this funny photo of me and Stella - I look like I'm eating a fireball!

PIZZA
Surprisingly I haven't eaten that much pizza and pasta. But we have found a great place on Campo Santa Margherita (which is the main centre of nightlife and is just a small walk from our apartment) that serves massive pizza slices for 2 euro - molto buono!
GELATO
I have been dutifully trying different gelati bars to find the best before Nick gets here (that's my excuse anyway!). Everyone raves about this thing that Gelateria Nico make that is cream, chocolate and hazelnuts and is apparently really overwhelming. Unfortunately Megs and I tried them when she was here and they were a total let down! Not that nice at all and certainly not the overwhelming chocolateness that everyone promised. Oh well I shall have to continue trying other places
