Arsenale highlights part 2

There were a number of works installed outside at the Arsenale, and one of the best was definitely Lara Favaretto's created swamp. I came across this work while I was walking through the gardens and at first I thought - how odd, there's this marshy, overgrown area in the gardens, you would think they would have done something about that - and then I found out it was a work! It was so beautiful and subtle (but full of mozzies!).

Cildo Melreles set up a sequence of 6 colour rooms in almost the primary and secondary colours (one room was hot pink not red) with a screen in the corner of each. The screens alternatively displayed a corner of their room colour or a corner from their complimentary colour room. As you walked between rooms you could see colours from the rooms either side which created interesting optical effects. Being surrounded by a single colour also played with one's spatial perception.

Chu Yun's work is hard to capture in a photograph - it was a dark room full of electrical appliances all turned on, so it created a mini-universe from all of their lights. It was a very poetic work with a number of layers to it.

Renata Lucas lifted sections of the floor throughout the Arsenale and installed bitumen with lines suggestive of carparking spaces or road lanes. Once again quite a subtle work but full of various readings. She also created part of a road in the Giardini
