Megs in Venezia

So Megs came to Venice again this weekend, this time with her friend Yasna, who is a hoot. Above is us having the 3rd round of celebrations for my birthday - Megan wanted to get me this cake from Marks and Spencer last time but couldn't, so she brought one with her this time. We didn't have any candles but then found the monstrosity above to go with it.

L to R: Mel, Fi, Megs

L to R: Stella, Toby (Stella's boyfriend) and Yasna

On Monday we decided to do a day trip out to Treviso and Conegliano. Treviso was supposed to be quite pretty with walks along the river and water wheels etc, but I didn't really see any of that - we couldn't find the tourist office so couldn't get much info. We kind of found the town centre, but everything is closed on a Monday until 3:30pm so we could only window shop. Which is probably just as well, because there were some really nice things there. So to pass the time until the next train we found a wine bar and had prosecco and cichetti.

Then onto Conegliano, which is part of the prosecco region of Italy and the intersection of two different wine trails, as well as having the remnants of an 11th century castle.

You can just see part of the castle on the hill in the background of the photo above. Everything was also shut until 3:30pm so it was a bit deserted. We found a nice restaurant though and settled in for a long lunch.

Megan with her 'steamed fish and veges' which was
actually a mix of seafood and a salad, but very good.

Me sporting a slightly crazed look - probably because I had finally
found some good seafood. Mine was a bunch of different
seafood and veges in batter - think eggplant and capsicum chips.

Mel, me and Megs at the restaurant - I look kinda sleepy!

My desert. It was like half an easter egg chocolate shell
filled with a chocolate mousse and orange sauce. Yum!!!

All the other girls had one of these each - it was mascarpone cheese
and strawberries, plus something else that looks like an Italian desert biscuit/cake.

We also had the most amazing drink - a sgroppino. We discovered these on Lido one night by chance (they stuffed up our desert, giving us frozen tiramisu!) and later found out what they were called. They are made from limoncello, prosecco, vodka and sorbet and are like drinking liquid lemon meringue!

Then we had a mad rush home to get Megs and Yasna to the airport. They both bought masks and we did a mini photo shoot so I'll post some piccies once I get them off Yasna.
